Walking in the Power of His Love

Many verses in today’s text could be punctuated with exclamation points, for they shout the essence of the Gospel and Christianity: God is love! What is love? What does it mean to say: “I love you”? God forever displayed the depth of His love for us when He sent His only Son into the world, so that we might enjoy full life in Him (v9). The root, then, of love is not our love for God, but His great love for us – even sending His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (v11). And God’s love is nothing short of transformational…for if God so loved us, we walk in the power of His love with one another. In this way, His love is perfected in us unto judgment day, a day of confidence for us, for power of His love has stripped that Day of all fear.
