Travel: Experience the Wonder of God’s World
Mark Twain once famously said, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." (The Innocents Abroad/Roughing It)
Do you love to travel? Would you love to see the world?
Join Pastor and Sarah Greiner on one of their upcoming trips for an unforgettable opportunity to explore the wonder of God's creation. You will return changed and inspired to travel again!
Current Travel Plans
Alaska (Summer 2019)
We will start with a cruise along the breathtaking coast of America's largest state. You will get to see the beautiful landscape and the wildlife, as well as stopping at charming Alaskan villages along the way. After that, we will ride through the countryside to Denali national park, home to the tallest mountain in North America, where we will stay for three nights, before riding the train back to Anchorage. For those who desire, we will extend our stay in Anchorage, including worship at a local Lutheran church. For those interested in singing, we will arrange for a few choir pieces we will sing in church.
Italy and the Passion Play (Summer 2020)
Explore the best of Italy, including Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa, and the Almafi Coast, before crossing the Alps to enjoy the Passion Play hosted in the Bavarian village of Oberammergau. Offered only once every decade, this spectacular production involves everyone in the village and is a stunning presentation of the Gospel!
Explore the Heart of Turkey (OPTIONAL Extension to the 2020 Trip)
With a foot on two continents - Europe and Asia - Turkey is mysterious and inviting, filled with charm and ancient wonders. Prior to our tour of Italy and the Passion Play in Oberammergau, we will explore the heart of Turkey, starting in Istanbul, where you can see the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and other sites. We will then move on to the inland region of Cappadocia, where the ancients carved out cave dwellings and early Christians hid to flee persecution. Our final stop on the western coast will take us to several of the sites where some of the earliest churches were established - Pergamum, Sardis, Smyrna, and Ephesus. We will then meet up with the rest of the tour group in Rome.
Future Travel Plans
Australia & New Zealand (Early 2022)
Some of God's most exotic handiwork is on display "down under" in the spectacular countries of Australia & New Zealand. This once-in-a-lifetime trip will take you to corners of the world that you may otherwise only get to see in pictures or on the travel shows.
Final details - including itinerary, dates, and cost - will be set based on the interest of those wishing to join this trip. Contact Pastor Greiner soon, if you are interested!
Holy Land - Israel & Jordan (2024/25)
Many have asked when we'll next go to the Holy Land. While no specific plans are in place, we anticipate our next trip taking place sometime around 2024 or 2025.
Germany: 500th Anniversary of the Reformation (June 19-28, 2017)
The Land of Luther will come to life in an unforgettable way as we approach the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. We plan to travel throughout Germany, including such Luther sites as Wittenberg (where he nailed the 95 theses to the church door), Eisenach (where he stayed at the Wartburg Castle), Erfurt (where he studied as a monk), Worms (where he stood his ground at the Diet of Worms), and many other sites. We will also engage with members of the Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche (SELK), with whom our denomination (LCMS) has an official partnership relationship.
Footsteps of Paul & Greek Isles (Spring 2016)
The Apostle Paul traveled extensively throughout modern-day Turkey and Greece, planting churches and spreading the Gospel. Retrace some of his steps and grow deeper in your faith. Enjoy the stunning beauty of such ancient cities as Athens, Corinth, and Thessaloniki.
The Heart of South Africa (Summer 2014)
South Africa holds a special place in our hearts, both for its natural, raw beauty and for the fact that we have partnered in ministry with Pastor Mandla Khumalo and the Confessional Lutheran Church of South Africa for 25 years. Join us for the first-ever tour of South Africa sponsored by St. Peter, culminating in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the founding of St. Peter Confessional Lutheran Church in Middelburg, South Africa.
Israel & Jordan - Experience the Holy Land (November 2012)
Future trips to the Holy Land will be considered based on interest. Contact Pastor Greiner if you would like to visit the Holy Land.
